The best apprentices are underclassmen (i.e. not juniors or seniors) who have specific ambitions about what specific roles and firms they wish to do after school. Our focus is on operations & strategy, as we have the most expertise in those functions.

The Institute training is 10 weeks long. Each weekday there will be a live session (lecture, group session, or simulation) that usually runs 1-2 hours. Furthermore, there are readings and assignments. The average commitment per day is ~5 hours, and is meant to be flexible around your schedule. Each Apprenticeship will be ~1 month but potentially longer, depending on the scope of the work. We'll work with you and your Mentor to find a mutually acceptable solution.

Upslope costs $0 upfront. Our tuition model is based on an income-share agreement, meaning you pay a percentage of your income after you get a job. For Upslope, you should expect to pay 10% of your gross income for 3 years. The ISA only applies if you earn greater than or equal to $50,000 and will pause if you are unemployed. Simply put, no. No one can guarantee you a job, but we'll do our very best to make you stand out in the application process, get you warm introductions, prepare you for interviews, and more. Ultimately, though, landing a job depends on you and how well you can internalize the lessons of Upslope. If you don't manage to get a job earning >= $50,000, your ISA will not charge you.

Internships have wildly variable quality. A lucky intern might have exposure to the executives, but many more will have to go on coffee runs. Apprenticeships focus on real-life practice of specific skills, so you can get reps on what you need to learn. No coffee duty ever.

If during your first 2 weeks working with your mentor you feel like it's not a good match, we'll rematch both of you.

Yes. Even if you don't break into the same industry as your mentor, Upslope and our mentor network are investing a lot of time and resources to train you.

Once you join, you'll be part of our community for life! We believe in continuous improvement, so as we update our curriculum and processes, you'll have access to all of it.

You should expect an Upslope Apprentice to be available on a part-time basis (i.e. < 40 hours / week) for about a month. We can find mutually acceptable terms for any given Apprenticeship.

Giving the Apprentice exposure and guidance to complete real client work, sharing your advice and perspectives on your industry with your mentor, and devoting at least 2 hours a week for 1:1 time to sharpen your Apprentice's craft.

Successful Mentors typically have 5+ years of private sector work experience at a start-up, large company, or in freelance consulting. The best mentors are expert freelancers who have a pipeline of client projects in a major business function such as Operations, Strategy, Business Development, Sales, HR or another non-technical operating function.

Our aim, first and foremost, is to match Apprentices & Mentors based on functional interests (e.g. if you're great at Sales and one of our Apprentices wishes to learn Sales, we'll aim to make that connection). Other than that, we're fairly open! During our intro call before you get matched, we'll talk about your preferences so we can take them into account.

You will have access to our community so long as you are actively working with an Apprentice! As a mentor you'll have access to our curriculum so you can brush up your skills too!

After completing a successful Apprenticeship, you can join one of our Institute cohorts free of charge. We can also discuss paid offerings in project management, project scoping, and negotiation for your freelance contracts.
